Playing with texture and color, you can make the arch harmonious in almost any interior, but such a solution is preferable in country or Provence-style rooms. An experienced designer can easily fit it into a modern style.

A square arch made of gypsum plasterboard is often decorated with styrofoam figures and details that just need to be glued. A more elegant, but also more expensive solution is stone. The use of veneer will help to save money and achieve a chic effect.

• A doorway of this type is valuable in that it does not alienate, but brings together parts of the space in the house, making it more holistic. This is a great way out when space is catastrophically small and even the most compact door on rail guides is simply nowhere to be put. However, a combination of an arched passage and an installed door would be quite appropriate.

• Supplementing an arch with a lamp, a plank or a bench placed next to it is often practiced, but for this you need to carefully select all the elements so that they do not create a sense of dissonance. If considerations of economy are in the forefront for you, then you can get by with curtains. Even on the passage from the corridor to the kitchen, such a design solution is permissible, since it helps to avoid the appearance of hot steam and extraneous odors throughout the apartment.

• By placing arches to the right and left of the decorative column, it will be possible to radically change the appearance of the room, dilute the monotony of classicism. The backlight can be installed on the sides or top.

• Arches are often used to mask damage to walls, exposed wiring and other communications.

• If a rectangular passage connects two adjacent areas from different rooms, they should be decorated in a similar key to each other.

• When not a simple rectangle is made, but a variant supplemented with niches, side and top windows and other decorative elements, then the structure is called a portal. Using columns of various types, it is quite possible to fit such a portal even into an ultra-modern or ethnic style. If the goal is to visually connect the kitchen and the dining room, then it would be a good idea to install a bar counter or a fake fireplace in the arch.

• Equipping a rectangular opening in the passage to the loggia instead of the door, you can achieve an amazing external effect, but qualified designers will be able to introduce arched structures in the middle of the room.
