The internal dimensions are understood as parameters "in the light". These are the distances between the inner edges of the frame of opposite sides. In most cases, they correspond to the dimensions of the picture itself, which is installed in a quarter of the baguette.

Internal parameters are standard in most cases. They do not depend on the width of the baguette, ranging from 15-20 cm. Often they correspond to the parameters of photo frames. But they can also be non-standard. They are made according to the measurements of the customer.

External parameters depend on the internal, as well as the width of the baguette. It can be narrow, typical, wide, single and complex. It is selected taking into account taste preferences and stylistic solutions of the interior. These are the parameters of the baguette frame along the largest side of the rail.

They do not affect the selection of the size for a particular canvas. However, they are taken into account when choosing a product for installation in rooms of different sizes. This takes into account the parameter of the larger side of the frame.

The size of the frames depends on the size of the paintings. Based on this, there is a certain gradation of them in ascending order. The parameters are divided into "French" and "European".

French sizes of paintings appeared as early as the 19th century. The standard meant division into 3 categories. Each of them had its own name:

• "figure" - a rectangle tending to a square shape;

• "marina" - maximally elongated rectangular format;

• "landscape" - an intermediate version between "figure" and "marina".

Each of the groups had its own number, which was determined by the largest side (for example, 15F = 65x54, 15P = 65x50, 15M = 65x46 cm). In general, the total number of sizes reaches 50 against 52 Russian parameters - from 15x20 to 100x120 cm.

They all have sonorous names. However, many of the canvas options are considered obsolete today. Standard acting French canvases include:

• cloche (cap);
• telier;
• ecu (shield);
• rezen (grapes);
• salts (sun);
• cocoa (shell);
• grand monde (big world);
• universe (universe);
• rod (Jesus).

Individual formats are named by font or watermarks on paper. For example, it can be “big eagle” (74x105), “small eagle” (60x94), “grapes” (50x64), “shell” (44x56), “wreath” (36x46 or 37x47).

European sizes of paintings have a simpler numerical gradation, indicated in centimeters:

For example, today you can buy frames in A2 (42x59.4), A3 (29.7x42), A4 (21x29.7) formats. Small frames are 9x12, 9x13, 10x15, 13x18, 18x24, 24x30 cm.

To choose the right frame for a picture on the wall, you need to take into account a number of nuances... For example, the size of the border indicates the size of the canvas to which it fits best. The frame itself, based on the mat and thickness, may be larger than the picture.

In the second case, it is more difficult to understand which parameter corresponds to a particular canvas. It is also not easy to choose frames of round, square, oval, complex shapes.

Turning to a baguette workshop, you can come across a special gradation of the size range. These can be non-standard frame parameters (for example, 62x93, 24x30, 28x35, 20x28, 10.5x15, 35x35 cm). These dimensions are indicated for the landing quarter with a technical tolerance of 1.5-1.9.

In stores, the buyer can be offered standard frames in formats (A1, A2, A3, A4). Large versions (210x70, 200x140) have to be ordered at the baguette workshops. In stores, most often there are small frames (40 by 50, 30 by 40).

It is also worth considering some of the nuances.

• The outer dimensions of the baguette can be determined by the style of the image.... For example, often a small drawing needs a wide frame. Watercolor is not complete without a mat. Portraits can be decorated with a molded baguette with large external dimensions.
